The Jolly Geographer

    Home The Jolly Geographer

Hey, I’m Sam (aka Samir if you’re in India, SamSam if you’re in Madagascar!).

I’m The Jolly Geographer. I live for all things geo, and I’m confident that shines through in my work. I’m lucky to call my career my hobby, so I never really stop working.

I’m in my early 30s (but still feel 25!) and I’ve sort of already been around the block. I’ve been involved in all four sectors, from a private-sector environmental consultancy to a marine conservation NGO. Building up my skills in the Civil Service, and learning from the best in conservation, it’s been quite the ride, meeting incredibly inspiring people and taking me to all corners of the globe.

So what am I trying to do here?

I want to use my skills and experience to bring geospatial (geography!) to the masses. Sure, I’m not the only one doing this, but there needs to be more of us! In marine and forest conservation alone I’ve seen just how valuable an appreciation of geography can be.

From understanding geographic patterns that describe or influence events, to visualising trends on a map – the upside is huge. Skills such as remote sensing (using satellite imagery), GIS (Geographic Information Solutions), data science and field-based environmental monitoring can generate a wealth of environmental intelligence to support your goals.

On this website (and on my @TheJollyGeo social pages) I plan to keep you up-to-date on everything I’m up to, and everywhere I go. If you want to know more, get in touch! My details are at the bottom.

    Sam
